Referee Shortage
During the winter CIF & NCAA seasons (Nov - Feb), the inventory of So-Cal BB officials experiences unpredictable availability.
How does this impact Long Beach Adult BB?
1. Traditionally, the majority of quality BB officials yield priority of availability to their respective CIF & NCAA schedules.
2. We have aggressively solicited the availability from our Long Beach roster of officials. Currently, 65% of the games are covered w/officials who are familiar with Long Beach facilities/teams/staff. This percentage could fluctuate as officials may "give back" adult games to work CIF/NCAA assignments. The balance of the schedule will be filled w/officials relatively new to this league.
When do officials traditionally return to Adult BB?
CIF: End of February | After the early rounds of CIF playoffs.
NCAA: Mid-March | After the NCAA regular season.
3. Although we don't have the luxury of regulars", we will work with the league coordinator to balance ref crews for the betterment of each respective division. We are open to suggestions and collaboration during this traditional window of referee shortages.
