Inclement Weather Policy
Referee Protocol and Compensation Due to Inclement Weather
Referees serve an important role in this tournament and are called to always act professionally in accordance with adopted standards.
All referees are expected to report for their assigned shifts unless their administrative point of contact notifies them in advance with different instructions. On the occasion inclement weather causes tournament officials to pause game play, and referees are asked to stay at the tournament so game play can promptly begin when conditions allow, the referee pay will continue during the pause at the previously adopted hourly rate.
Referees must remain at the event, stay in active contact with appointed administration, and fulfill other obligations to be paid during the pause in games. Referees must also commit to finish their scheduled games, if held, to be paid for the pause in game play. Once the decision to commence the tournament is made, referees are to promptly report for duty. Should the schedule adjust for any reason each referee will adapt to changing conditions, including an adjusted schedule where games are played in a condensed timeframe. In such situations, referee pay will be for hours worked, not total games. For example, if three games are held in an hour rather than two, the referee pay will remain at the previously adopted hourly rate.
If the tournament is cancelled without play referees are not entitled to compensation. If a tournament pause turns into tournament cancellation, referees will be paid as outlined above.
